How opt-in works

Outdoor Text SMS program, operated by LinkTaps LLC

People opt in by texting (555) 555-0100 first. Outdoor Text never texts anyone who has not texted it, never sends marketing, and only replies to the messages a person sends, plus one welcome message after their first text.

Every message is a direct reply to a request the person just sent, so there is no separate “reply Y to confirm” step: sending the question is the confirmation, and nothing is sent that the person did not ask for.

1. They find the number

The number is published on outdoortext.com with the messaging disclosure: automated replies, message frequency depends on how often you text us, Msg & data rates may apply, Reply STOP to end, HELP for help, and links to the Terms and Privacy policy. See the disclosure.

2. They text a question, and get one reply

The person's first text is their consent. Each text they send gets one automated reply.

3. They get the welcome message, once

After the reply to their first text, we send a single welcome message that states the program name, that replies are automated, the message frequency, rates, STOP and HELP, and the terms and privacy link. It is sent once per phone number, ever.

4. Opting out and help

Replying STOP (or STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT) ends all messages; the carrier-standard confirmation above is the last text they receive. Replying HELP returns: “Outdoor Text: weather, forecast, alerts, parks + a place, or a question. Coords best in mountains. Alerts always free. help@outdoortext.com. Reply STOP to end”

The conversation above is an illustration of the message flow; message text matches what the service sends.
